Photography: Personal: Post Tsunami Sri Lanka

On December 26, 2004, an event beyond all predictions struck the island nation of Sri Lanka and fourteen other countries. The day after Christmas for tourists, and during the locals monthly poya festivities, the mighty waves of the Asian tsunami cast their fury, killing over 30,000 people and leaving many more injured, homeless, and orphaned. No warning. The world was in complete shock. The purpose of this book is to portray the diverse culture of Sri Lanka in a different light apart from their misfortune. Photography is my method of discernment, my medium of inquiry. It attempts to explore the true Sri Lanka, in a way that post tsunami facts or figures could never do justice-it is the approach that exposes the soul of the local. This is my photographic exploration.
